Gardening

I think I got my green thumb from my grandparents. My grandparents were self sustainable farmers. Besides maintaining and managing rice, and corn fields, my grandfather had such interest in fruits and vegetables and my grandmother had interest in flowers. I spent elementary school life with my grandparents and growing up I watched them grow crops, fruits, vegetables and flowers. Some of my fondest memories include spending tireless moment roaming around my grandparents fruit orchard and enjoying fresh fruits that included sweet peel-able oranges, different varieties of guavas, peaches, asian pears, papaya, jackfruit, mangoes etc. Because my grandmother had such interest in flowers of different colors, my grandparents little cottage was surrounded by colorful blooms. When I reflect back to my childhood, I spent my childhood in the most beautiful place on earth with so much in love, and care from my loved ones, and abundance of literally everything. My grandparents are no longer with me but I am forever grateful to have such wonderful, caring, loving grandparents in my life who taught me to find happiness in small things in nature.

Gardening is one thing that makes me truly happy. I have a small backyard and I try to grow my garden in my backyard. I try to plant seasonal flowers and vegetables. It’s my go to place for when I am happy, when I am sad, when I am tired, when I am excited, when I am stressed, when I am conscious or when I am unconscious. Only those people who has germinated a seed and watch it grow to bear flower and then fruit understand how pleasant a journey is. This summer of 2024, I am growing following things in my garden:

  • Dill
  • Chuchhe karela
  • Tulsi
  • Cucumber
  • pole beans
